Press Brake Dies

General Purpose 90° Forming Punches and Dies

Commonly used for forming 90° bends. Forming bends greater than 90° is also practical by air bending. The press brake ram is adjusted to limit the depth of punch travel into the die to obtain the desired bend angle.

General Purpose 30° Forming Punches and Dies

Acute Dies are the most universal type of press brake dies. Recommended as a starter set. Make air-form bends from 30° to shallow bends, and also for first operation set in hemming.

Special Purpose Punches and Dies

Hemming dies, Goose Neck die punches for channel making, and Offet Bending die sets.

Tonnage Requirement Chart

Note: Using wider dies than necessary can decrease the tonnage required to make a bend.
Number 1 - 11 Gauge Punch
Number 1 - 11 Gauge
A combination of the Number 1 Punch and the Number 2 Die is the most commonly used in industry for forming 90° bends. Forming bends greater than 90° is also practical by air bending. The press brake ram is adjusted to limit the depth of punch travel into the die to obtain the desired angle.
Relief on sides of Number 1A Punch permits closer back gauge clearance and longer returns than are possible with a Number 1 Punch. Load is on punch shoulders, not on ram slot as in dies without shoulders. This punch is useful for forming up to 14 gauge with Number 2 Dies of 1/4" through 5/8" openings. Number 1A - 14 Gauge Punch
Number 1A - 14 Gauge
Number 2 die - 22 gauge die
No. 2 - 1/4" - 22 Gauge
Number 2 die - 18 gauge
No. 2 - 3/8" - 18 Gauge

No. 2 - 1" - 11 Gauge
Number 1B Punch - 20 gauge
No. 1B - 20 Gauge

A combination of the Number 1B Punch and any Number 2A Die make an economical die set for light-gauge sheet metal forming, particularly for short flanges. Not recommended for high production or where punch is in short sections.

Number 2A die - 26 gauge
No. 2A - 1/8" - 26 Gauge
Number 2A die - 24 gauge
No. 2A- 3/16" - 24 Gauge

No. 2A - 1/4" - 22 Gauge
Number 2A die - 20 gauge
No. 2A - 5/16" - 20 Gauge

A Number 3 Punch and a Number 4 Die are used to produce 90° bends in heavy gauge metals or plate. Most forming in this category is performed by air bending, in order to keep press brake tonnage capacities to a minimum and to prevent material fracture. The inside radius of the resulting bends will be equal to, or greater than the material thickness indicated with the different dies.

Number 3A Punch - 10 gauge
No. 3A - 10 Gauge
